What Sets Baseball Collectibles Apart From One Another?

To fickle fans, one baseball collectible isn't like another. There's a big difference between owning a Mickey Mantle player's card and one with Derek Jeter's autograph on it.

Fans of the game aren't the only ones amassing baseball collectibles - the practice has a wide audience because the memorabilia is also a good financial investment and treasure to be passed down to your heirs.

Don't let price affect your decision to start accumulating baseball collectibles. You can start a collection for almost nothing and build it from there. You want to know the difference between the values of the various memorabilia so that you'll know which items are worth your consideration.

When you start gathering your own baseball collectibles, such as baseball cards, you'll find you can bulk up your collection with inserts, unopened packs, complete ready-made sets, and rookie cards.

When a player is a rookie, and then becomes a legend in the game, his rookie card is highly valuable. With today's mass produced baseball collectibles a single player can have multiple rookie cards.

Inserts will be a great addition to any baseball collectible stash because they include autographs, snippets of kerseys or leather from the gloves, and all are limited in quantity. Getting an insert card is almost like taking a gamble - you never know whether or not your pack will have the wining ticket, but that doesn't stop fans from trying!

If you can get your hands on unopened packs, then you'll be glad to know the sheer mystery of the item adds value to your baseball collectibles, not to mention the chance of getting an insert card in your new pack. Unopened packs range from a mere dollar to thousands of dollars if you're searching the market for a vintage pack to add to your baseball collectibles.

If you have the money and expertise to know a good deal when you see it, then you may want to find a complete ready-made set of cards for your baseball collectibles. It's very difficult to find a complete set because there are so many cards being produced for each player and team that even seasoned pros have a hard time tracking down every single item needed to complete a set.

Still, with money and time on your side, this can be a fascinating hobby that provides the thrill of the find each and every time you're able to get your hands on a unique baseball collectible that completes your own set of memorabilia.

Importance Of Testing Young Athlete Participating In Competitive Sports

With the arrival of the 21st century, a wide variety of elicit performance enhancement drugs have entered the underground market. While each year a new variation arrives on the market for athletes, most are entirely detectable by the most common of drug testing available for "over-the-counter" purchase. Internal testing has become more and more popular with each growing year in the private sectors, where many athletes are getting their first introduction into a possible career in professional sports; where it is also most commonly proven that abuse of performance enhancement drugs first occurs. Many skeptics would argue that the "over-the-counter" drug testing is inherently flawed, that something as simple as Creatine can be used to mask or neutralize any results that may surface. Time and science has progressed quite quickly with those that would try to create and distribute "masking" solutions to drug testing; making it all but an impossibility if the directions on the test are carefully followed.

Dependency and habitual abuse are the primary concerns for early intervention as well as understanding that the mentality surrounding performance enhancing drugs is not the same as those which revolve around more illicit drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, or amphetamines. A sports athlete does not take steroids to produce the same effect a drug-addict will, while there is a co-correlation of instant gratification in both, the use of steroids is normally a gradual path which begins with enhancement drugs, which are less noticeable. When treading on this deadly subject, one must look at the true scope of the situation, do you want your younger athletes spreading this malice to others, crippling there possible career in professional sports, and if not, are you willing to take the necessary steps of testing everyone in order to weed out the few possible 'bad apples" of the bunch.

With the highest echelons of athletes knowingly performing under the influence of steroids. From the infamous record set by Mark Maguire to the record set by Sammy Sosa in professional baseball years later, a co-correlating factor does exist and it isn't upbringing, or race, or political affiliations, it is simply the use of steroids. Each athlete developed himself in such a way that they could achieve the unthinkable and actually beat records, which hadn't been broken in decade upon decade. The simple value of a piece of cardboard printed with their face and statistics rose in value 3-500%, a rookie card, autographed was literally fetching thousands shortly after the feats were accomplished. The promise of entering the hall of fame of there sport was all but guaranteed until the reality of the situation surface, they'd abused illicit drugs to achieve these unthinkable feats. Forever to be looked on in a different light by those which once adored them. By the very faces which enable them to play something they love and earn a living. Andrey Agassi and Grant Fuhr are other examples which come to mind, abusing stimulants which are naturally harder to trace if only due to the fact they stay in the system for such a brief interval of time. With heavy dosing of water and a timeline established for bi-weekly testing, the addict is easily capable of developing a system around this. If he understands cocaine has a maximum duration of three days in the cycle, he will stop using three days before a bi-weekly urine drug test and pass it. It is evident that every measure of prevention that can be taken should be, the most important of which must be nipping a problem in the seed before the imperfection has time to grow and manifest; drug test now and avoid problems which may surface years from now. One must realize just how easily influenced the mind of a child athlete truly is, even more so into early adolescence and manhood, as the need to perform and excel is more important then ever. With popularity, a possible career, access to more advanced education institutions based purely on the performance in a sport, the lust and desire to succeed can often be so great, that the ultimate consequences are overlooked. Time and time again, what could have been a great athlete is lost due to his own egocentric mentality; often the world owes them something, and they'll do anything necessary to take get their slice of proverbial pie.

Ultimately one must weigh the situation entirely before proceeding with any method to deter drug use amongst there athletes. Whether it is bi-weekly or completely random, a measure of regularity in testing will almost certainly guarantee that the use of such illicit substances is altogether stopped or greatly reduced. When examining the fact that one may lose valuable and key players to such a rigorous course of action, it should be seen as a utter necessity when the possibility of more then half of a team could be affected if only because the primary user is considered a leader or inspirational or even elderly and experienced compared to the rest of his team. In the end, the decision if not mandated by the managing body must come through a coach pleading and advancing this case for what it is. A dangerous problem which is currently affecting a great deal of younger athlete's throughout north america and the world abroad. Will you stand idle and let your younger athletes destroy themselves, or will you do your earnest to try and have a measure of protection installed not only for the players, but for the team and yourself.
