Why Chicago Should Host 2016 Olympics

Chicago, Illinois, home of gangsters, gangs and political corruption galore is also an amazing city with lots of beautiful things to see and a downtown which would be the envy of most towns. It is in the final round of voting over who will host the Olympics and there are a great number of reasons why Chicago should host the 2016 Olympics.

First, let's just consider the question of location and availability of facilities. Chicago is centrally located in the United States and already hosts one of the world's largest airports, O'Hare International. There would be absolutely no problem with offering the games to the city since people could easily fly in from everywhere in the world and would have access to reasonably priced flights. In addition, Chicago already has most of the venues that would be needed and which could easily be adapted for the events. They have two baseball stadiums (the Cubs' Wrigley Field and White Sox's U.S. Cellular field), a basketball stadium (the Bulls' United Center), a hockey stadium and an American football stadium to name just a few.

Let's also consider a moral point of view. Barack Obama is a Chicagoan through and through. The entire world breathed a sigh of relief when Obama was elected president and they felt that the Bush era was finally over. Wouldn't it be an appropriate thing for the world to pay tribute to the first black president of the United States by having the games in his home town?

Another important aspect of the Olympic games is the need to have adequate transportation for people to get around the town. The city of Chicago actually has one of the oldest and best public subway and bus systems in the United States (second only to the New York City transportation system). In several visits to the city, I found that there was never a problem with getting wherever I wanted to get to and getting their in a reasonable period of time,

Also, given the economy in the Midwest, this would be a huge boost for the area and help to drag the United States out of the recession. While certainly much of the world is mired in problems, the recession began in the United States and I still maintain that it will be the United States that will help lead the world out of recession.

And frankly, if nothing else, the reason we why Chicago should host the 2016 Olympics is that it is one of the greatest cities in the world.
